Our Team
Founded in 2019, our robotics team is a student-led organization based in the Ford Robotics Building at the University of Michigan. We bring together passionate engineers, programmers, and innovators from across disciplines to design, build, and test advanced robotic systems. Each year, we compete in VEX U competitions across the country, applying our technical skills in high-level match play against top collegiate teams. Our mission is to push the boundaries of applied robotics through hands-on development, competition, and collaboration — all while fostering a strong, inclusive team culture. Whether we're prototyping in the machine shop or refining autonomous code, we're driven by curiosity, teamwork, and the challenge of solving real-world problems.
Our Facilities
01
Ford Robotics Building
Located on North Campus, the Ford Robotics Building is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing robotics research, education, and hands-on development. Home to the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering and Robotics Department, the building houses cutting-edge research labs, classrooms, collaborative workspaces, and dedicated lab space for student project teams. The facility also includes a fully equipped makerspace with 3D printers and a fabrication lab, providing the tools necessary to prototype and build advanced robotic systems.
02
FRB Project Team Makerspace
Our team operates out of the Project Team Lab in the Ford Robotics Building, a shared innovation hub designed for student-led engineering and robotics teams. Our dedicated workspace provides access to high-quality tools and resources, including the building’s fully equipped fabrication lab and makerspace with 3D printers, laser cutters, and machining tools. This environment supports rapid prototyping, hardware development, and collaborative problem-solving — essential to the hands-on work that drives our projects forward.

Sub Teams
Mechanical Team
Programming Team
Business & Operations
The Mechanical Subteam designs, builds, and tests all physical components of our robots. From CAD modeling and structural prototyping to machining and assembly, this team focuses on ensuring reliable performance through precision engineering and creative problem-solving. Members gain hands-on experience with tools, fabrication processes, and mechanical systems integration.
The Programming Subteam develops the software that powers our robots. This includes writing control algorithms, sensor integration, autonomous navigation, and system diagnostics. Using C++ members work on embedded systems, real-time communication, and performance optimization to bring our mechanical designs to life.
The Business & Operations Subteam manages the logistics, outreach, and strategic growth of the team. Responsibilities include sponsorship relations, budgeting, event planning, marketing, and recruitment. This team ensures that we remain organized, well-funded, and connected to the broader community — enabling the technical subteams to focus on innovation.
The Challenge 2025
Sponsor Us
We’re seeking sponsors to help support our student-run robotics team based in the Ford Robotics Building at the University of Michigan. Your sponsorship directly fuels innovation — funding advanced components, fabrication resources, travel to competitions, and outreach efforts that inspire the next generation of engineers.
In return, sponsors gain visibility across our digital platforms, custom branding on our robots and team apparel, and the opportunity to engage with top-tier engineering talent. We’re proud to represent our partners both on campus and on the competition stage.
